Today the UIA World Congress 2023 CPH Science Track opens its Call for Papers, asking how architecture can activate its profound agency in shaping our societies and its potentials for a sustainable, equitable and inclusive future for all.

Over the past year and a half the Scientific Committee of the UIA World Congress 2023 CPH Science Track has articulated the Call for Papers across 6 panels that frame the interconnectedness of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The call invites new research and knowledge that critically engages with the diverse ways in which architecture and the built environment connect to the intentions of the 17 SDGs.

Authors of accepted papers will be invited to present at the world congress July 2-6 2023 and be published in a congress proceedings book-series published by Springer.

The call encourages submissions from academics, independent scholars, built environment agents of change including civil society organisations, as well as practitioners and policy makers. The aim of the call is to bridge knowledge and practice siloes through interdisciplinarity and multiple pathways and modes, and in so doing demonstrate creative and innovative approaches to the urgent problems of our times.

“With only 8 years left to achieve the SDGs it is clear that real action must take place now. With this Call for Papers the World Congress aims to fosters new research and knowledge exchanges needed for the architecture and the built environment disciplines to understand, build and fulfill their active role in achieving the SDGs. Together we have a collective responsibility to articulate and demonstrate architecture’s capacity to create impactful questions, approaches and solutions across all 17 SDGs and help ensure that no one is left behind,” says professor Mette Ramsgaard Thomsen, General Reporter for UIA World Congress 2023 CPH Science Track
