COPENHAGEN – YOUR HOST CITY

Copenhagen (CPH in short) is a city that mixes a green mindset with ingenuity and fun. The city has a strong legacy within architecture and innovative urban development, along with its high ambitions on climate, sustainability solutions and livability.

Danish architecture is known for its focus on the human scale and its democratic approach, as well as its unique modern buildings that include a power plant with a ski slope on its roof called CopenHill, a bike-first urban design consisting of the bicycle snake bridge, and not to mention floating harbour swimming pools, rooftop restaurants and recreation areas, and innovative residential buildings. This makes it the ideal background for the 28th UIA World Congress of Architects, which brings professionals from the whole built environment together for 4 days to create a more sustainable future – for everyone.

EXPERIENCE THE DANISH EPICENTER OF ARCHITECTURE

Danish Architecture Center (DAC) is a congress partner and with your congress ticket, you get free entry during the congress days from July 2-6.

DAC is situated in the spectacular BLOX building at the Copenhagen harbor front and in the Cultural District of Copenhagen. Make DAC your favorite hang-out spot and meet local architects and citizens when exploring the exhibitions about Danish and Copenhagen architecture or enjoy a drink at the roof top terraces. You will also get a unique opportunity to dust off your running shoes in the famed DAC Architecture Run, where you’ll be running or walking through Copenhagen’s many beautiful buildings on Sunday July 2. Or join DAC on one of the guided UIA congress tours. If you want an introduction to the amazing eco-system that BLOX is, meet DAC and neighbor institutions in BLOX for drinks and a tour of the building at the Tour de Chambre party as part of the partner side events on July 4.

WHY NOT STAY LONGER?

It’s summer in this part of the world during the World Congress and if you have the opportunity, stay longer.

Make sure to book your stay well in advance. Copenhagen is a popular tourist destination, but also has many accommodation options (We will share some great options her on the site in the coming weeks).

Denmark is a beautiful, but small country. It means you can get anywhere in maximum six hours – from the top of Jutland in the northwest to the island of Bornholm in the southeast. All cities can be reached by bus, train and car within 1 to 4 hours from Copenhagen. They are great places to enjoy architecture and some rest after the Congress.

MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR CARBON FOOTPRINT!

Scandinavia and the Nordics are both close in geography and culture as well as wide-ranging in sights and nature. From the wide open areas and beaches of Denmark, to the mountains of Norway, the deep forests of Sweden, and the majestic lakes of Finland, the Nordics have exceptional nature and modern cities to explore, including interesting architecture.

If you’re feeling even more adventurous, the strikingly stark nature of Greenland, the volcanic majesty of Iceland and the beautiful green mountains of the Faroe Islands hold experiences and adventures that are unique and astonishing.
