Science Track Kick-off Event

The UIA2023CPH Scientific Committee hosted a large online participatory kick-off event on November 26. Researchers and practitioners from across the globe were invited to reflect upon the work of the six Science Panels undertaken by the Scientific Committee over the past year.

We are grateful to say that everyone generously contributed with input and the Science Track is now looking to revise and integrate the material and outcomes from the event. It was evident that there was enthusiastic interest amongst all participants in exchanging knowledges, perspectives and experiences. The central agency of architecture and the built environment as drivers for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was broadly perspectivised not only through the work of the Scientific Committee, but also through the practices and research brought into the virtual room by the excellence and diversity of the participants.

The urgency of action and collaboration in implementing the SDGs is clear to everyone, and the importance of international knowledge exchanges and fostering of new practices was indeed confirmed during the kick-off event. The event also offered valuable experiences as to the complexity of guiding these kinds of conversations in a participatory online-based format. It was a new experience for all of us and we are currently in process of collecting feedback and analysing what worked well and what less so.

The Science Track and the Scientific Committee looks forward to continuing to share their work and to engage with the excellence and enthusiasm of the global architectural community and support knowledge exchanges in the lead-up to the UIA2023CPH World Congress in Copenhagen July 2 – 6, 2023. This will happen through a series of pre-events as well as other initiatives that will soon be launched.
