Putting sustainable futures into practice – now!

Zhuang Weimin (China) and James Wright (USA), Co-Directors of the UIA Professional Practice Commission (PPC), will co-host an open forum discussion on how architects can translate sustainable future policy goals into their practices now.

For context, the session will open with a brief presentation on the current and past work of the PPC, followed by an introduction into the urgency of understanding the leadership role architects must play within their practice communities and how the actual practice of architecture can support global climate justice. Guest Speaker [name to be confirmed] will outline the potential for practicing architects to act as “front-line responders” to the climate crisis and the consequences of inaction.

This will be followed by members of the PPC relating examples of practice adjustments they see as necessary. The Co-hosts will then open the discussion for attendee participation, seeking audience input on new practice-related initiatives supporting sustainable futures the UIA PPC should consider undertaking for the new triennium term.
