The construction industry has an outsized impact on the environment. But – it also has enormous potential to be at the forefront of change. This session will be a condensed version of Henning Larsen’s Unboxing Carbon course, which untangles the basic syntax of sustainability in the built environment by promoting carbon literacy and a clear understanding of embodied carbon. This means developing both an intuitive understanding of the impact of construction materials as well as the ability to find and interpret the available data on the matter.
What is ‘embodied carbon’, why is ‘up-front carbon’ so important? And how do we ensure that our design processes are aligned with healthy and sustainable decision-making? The session will begin with a lecture followed by a hands-on workshop delving into various materials.
