October 13, 2021. Christian Benimana, architect and senior principal and managing director at MASS Design Group in Kigali (RA) gives a keynote lecture on architecture as a catalyst for social change, economic growth and justice.

Christian Benimana, architect and senior principal and managing director at MASS Design Group in Kigali (RA) was invited to the Royal Danish Academy to give a keynote lecture as part of the Academy’s International Lecture Series. In 2022 the lecture series explores the UIA World Congress 2023 CPH agenda Sustainable Futures – Leave No One Behind.

MASS Design Group is a value-driven practice that considers the built environment as a catalyst for social change, economic growth and justice. In his lecture, Christian Benimana explains through a number of concrete examples how this informs their projects and processes. He also shares his own personal journey as an architect and how this connects to his efforts of contributing to the establishment of The African Design Centre, providing a hub for design and architectural education in Rwanda.

MASS Design Group have received several prestigious awards and mentioningsincluding the 2022 AIA Architecture Firm Award, and in 2020 they were named the Architecture Innovator of the Year by the Wall Street Journal for their origins in healthcare and commitment to architecture as a medium for healing.  

The lecture took place on October 13, 2022 at the Royal Danish Academy – Architecture, Design, Conservation and was open the public.
