Anker Bak is a Danish furniture designer and cabinetmaker who works and experiments with wood. His work reflects a deep-seated wish to solve daily problems and improve people’s lives with dignified and necessary furniture. Anker is equally a designer and storyteller and insists his designs must inspire us in a time when we need new solutions and different stories. His vision for a future with a new and more dignified design category for the elderly and people in need OF ASSISTANCE has won him both The Wegner Prize and Snedkerprisen (the Danish Cabinetmakers Prize) in 2023.
Anker’s focus means he almost always develops his furniture and his aids from personal stories and relations. There are instances where he discovers a problem with the respect and dignity afforded to the user that he wants to solve. Through his holistic vision and empathy, Anker’s work combines tactile materials, organic form and necessary function. Ankers work and collaborations are especially focused on The Nordics and Japan.
