Joseph Kwan

JOSEPH KWAN has more than 40 years of experience in international architectural practice having worked in Australia, United Kingdom, France and now over 30 years in Hong Kong. He is the Founding Director of UDA Consultants Ltd. (Universal Design and Accessibility Consultants) in Hong Kong since 2005.

He is the Region IV Director of the UIA Work Programme on “Architecture and the Disabled” since 1999, and was elected a Council Member, Region IV from 2005-2008. He is the inaugural Chairman of ARCASIA Committee on Social Responsibility (2011-2014), and a Founder Member and Chairman of ARCASIA Emergency Architects (AEA) since 2019.

He was the Global Chair of Rehabilitation International (RI) – International Commission on Technology and Accessibility (2006-2016) and is the current Vice- President Asia Pacific for RI. He is a Member of the International Steering Committee for TRANSED (International Conference on Mobility and Transport for Elderly and Disabled Persons) since 2001.

He is a Recipient of The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Hong Kong Citation, elected Champion of Inclusive Design Award by the Include Global Network, and was awarded the “Medal of Honour” (MH) by the Hong Kong SAR.

Joseph is the author of a number of papers and articles on various aspects of designing for universal accessibility/disability; and has extensive lecture experiences over the past 30 years, given lectures and presentations in over 33 countries.
