Martin is a founding partner of CITYFÖRSTER architecture + urbanism and managing partner of the office in Rotterdam. After studying landscape architecture and architecture at the Universities of Hannover and Oslo, Martin came to Rotterdam in 2003 for postgraduate studies at the Berlage Institute where he stayed to co-found Cityförster.
Martin is responsible for strategic location development and international projects. He specialises in architecture and urban design with a socio-economic impact. In recent years his research has focussed on reducing the carbon footprint of the built environment. He has recently led two research projects on the subject commissioned by the Dutch government entitled: Carbon-Based Design and Steps to Zero.
