There are many existing solutions that focus on architecture and sustainability and illustrate how architecture can contribute to the realisation of the Global Goals.
BOOK TOURS & SOCIAL EVENTS
Make sure to book tours at the end of each congress day and reserve your seat for unique experiences at historic Copenhagen City Hall or converted industrial area Øksnehallen.
THE CITY OF COPENHAGEN
The World Congress takes place in Copenhagen, Denmark, appointed UNESCO UIA World Capital of Architecture 2023. The whole city will be a vibrant stage of events and invitations to celebrate sustainable urban development – culminating in the World Congress at Bella Center in July. It is a city that mixes green mindset with ingenuity and fun. The city is built for bike rides, the harbour has been repurposed for swimming, parks, gardens and small green oases are sprinkled all over town. Copenhagen offers excellent opportunities to explore the city, whether by foot, bike or wheelchair.
THE VENUE:
BELLA CENTER
Bella Center Copenhagen is well situated in one of Copenhagen’s newer districts Ørestad – close to both airport and city centre by bike or metro. You will see it as never before – a vibrant stage of unique meeting places, a celebration of universal design, explorative constructions and wayfinding to guide you.
Accessibility is our priority. Meeting rooms and larger halls have lifts available. Auditoriums can be accessed via stages. Service animals are welcome. Entrances to the venue are accessible.
NEW GUIDE ON DANISH ARCHITECTURE
The Danish Association of Architects has published a brand new guidebook entitled “A Guide to Danish Architecture – Towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals” . 60 Danish Architectural projects, contributing to one or more of the goals. As it says in the book’s preface ‘Architects have the power to change habits and behaviors when it comes to our built infrastructure and approach to the nature that surrounds us.’ These examples are hopefully a inspiration to create a better world, for all of us.
Tower of wind pavilion 💫
The Tower of Wind is meant as a monument celebrating sustainable architecture, in which the public can experience a journey through the history of meteorology and get an insight into how future technology can help combat climate challenges.

Get ready to let the Next Generation IMPRESS you!
We are happy to present this Gobelin artwork from the inspiring visual artist Tuva Victoria B. Nesse in Bella Center this july.
It’s a modern take on the Danish Queen’s tapestries, focusing on historical events from the 21st century. A lot has happened since the queen’s tapestries were made, and this is what the tapestry is communicating with a humoristic approach. The project aims to raise questions regarding our modern society and how historical events from the 21st century have affected our everyday lives.
Experience this art piece amongst many other inspiring installations, at the World Congress in only one month.
See you in Copenhagen!

Experience the wayfinding project `ARCHITECTURE IN COMMON` during the World Congress, leading the way from Ørestad metro to Bella Center venue. Psst... It´s made by students! Yay!
Architecture in Common: Leave No One Behind is an interdisciplinary design workshop and collaborative project for Copenhagen based students.
@danish_landscape_architects in collaboration with @nextkbh, @koebenhavnskommune, Ørestad Innovation City Copenhagen, @kglakademi, and @university_of_copenhagen are initiators of the interdisciplinary collaboration in which 90 students will work together to design an installation based wayfinding strategy in Ørestad City.
Task: Strategy and installations should facilitate orientation and the design focus should be reticent of inclusion and universal design from the projects conception. The brief requires the design of spaces in which installations can remain permanently, places that are temporary while the congress is in progress and installations that are created for the congress, but afterwards will be moved to other locations in Copenhagen.
Why? -When people orientate themselves in the city, a dialogue occurs between
a person and a space. Signage, sightlines and landmarks are scanned, based on personal experience and ability the individual can then choose a direction by which to navigate themselves.
Universal Design can be understood as; design in which architecture, landscape and product are accessible to as many people as possible, i.e where as broad a range of abilities can benefit from the full aesthetic and functional enjoyment of the design.
The task calls for the insight of each professional discipline; landscape architecture, architecture and carpentry; your groups will include at least one representative from each.
We´re super excited to show YOU the project during the congress days! A big `Thank you` to all students, who made the effort to share their precious knowledge and their strength, to build the components in order to make this happen 💫

The project is presented by the Danish Association of Architects and the UIA World Congress of Architects Copenhagen in collaboration with the City of Copenhagen and CPH City and Port Development. The pavilions are created in relation to the World Congress, and present activities to congress guests and visitors throughout the summer to celebrate Copenhagen as the World Capital of Architecture in 2023.
