FULLY BOOKED – KID CITY Study trip; Children, playing and democracy

Gatulabba

A project about children’s freedom of movement. Can something be done to give children greater freedom to move independently outside their home, even in our big cities?
Gatulabba is an innovative project, not only envisioning the streets of the future together with children and young people, but also testing them on a 1:1 scale. The project experiments with streets and cycle paths and has been developed together with children and young people. These are key factors for increasing freedom of movement, thereby enabling outdoor activities that are important for mental and physical health.

Mary Andersson’s playground
Visit Hollywood and the dump in the same playground? Everything is possible in Mary Andersson’s playground, a unique place with a design based on the local history of the district Sorgenfri.

The idea for Mary Andersson’s playground originally came from a number of residents in Sorgenfri. It is an example of a socially sustainable development of a public space, and shows that extensive dialogue and planning processes require long-term perspectives, resources, engaged driving actors and cross-border cooperation. Taking advantage of the residents’ ideas and the local history of the place generated local pride and anchored the playground in the area.

PLAY FOR DEMOCRACY Form/Design Center (exhibition)
How can children be involved in civic processes through artistic learning on democracy, architecture and design? The exhibition presents the process and method of a project involving 120 local children in the municipal preparations for a new City Hall in Ängelholm, Sweden.
