The politics of Architectural Quality in a Time of (Housing) Crisis

As a response to the current housing crisis in Iceland, a framework agreement was signed, between the Icelandic government and the Icelandic Association of Local Authorities to secure a dramatic growth of 25% in the country’s housing stock over the next 10 years. Iceland’s situation is far from unique and sets the ground for a wider conversation.

How can political policies ensure visionary and sustainable developments that address our current social and environmental challenges? What processes can ensure the participation of multiple publics in large scale decision making? How can architects and urban planners work together with authorities to make regulations that substantiate architectural and urban quality? These are among the topics we will be reflecting on in a panel discussion between architects, urban planners, public stakeholders, and policy makers.
