Biodiversity Leadership Summit

Across the world, there is a growing understanding that the construction industry has a significant responsibility to develop cities and built environments that contribute positively to biodiversity. This involves providing space for nature to thrive locally and ensuring sustainable supply chains globally. However, what does it take for biodiversity to truly become an integrated part of the construction industry’s practices? What new tools and methods are needed? What is the state-of-the-art here at home, and what can we learn from abroad?

The Biodiversity Leadership Summit, initiated by Contech Lab, The Confederation of Danish Industry (DI), and industry-leading architecture, landscape architecture, and urbanism studio Henning Larsen, aims to address these questions. Bringing together a circle of prominent international figures and top players from Danish construction, the Biodiversity Leadership Summit seeks to kickstart and support the development process in the industry’s work on biodiversity.

The Biodiversity Leadership Summit focuses on the following:

  • Strengthening biodiversity in the built environment: What is required to enhance biodiversity? How can biodiversity truly become an integrated part of the construction industry’s practices? What are the challenges and opportunities?
  • New tools for measuring biodiversity: What new methods and tools are needed? How can digital technologies be integrated? What are we doing in Denmark, and what is happening abroad?
  • Business potential: How do we value biodiversity, and what is the business potential? How do we increase companies’ incentives to invest in more biodiversity in cities?

This session includes debates moderated by Christian Pagh from Oslo Architecture Triennale, with a short keynote by Martha Schwartz. Participating in the debate are Mads Kann-Rasmussen from VKR-Holding and Chairman of WWF, Kasper Guldager founder of Home.Earth, Jakob Strømann-Andersen from Henning Larsen Architects, Rasmus Vincentz from Habitats, and Christina Haupt Toft from ConTech Lab.
