Eduardo Rojas-Briales

Chair of the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), former Assistant Director-General and Head of Forestry at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations

Eduardo Rojas-Briales holds an MSc in Forestry from the University of Freiburg (1985) and a Ph.D. from the Polytechnic University of Madrid (1996). Since 1997, he has been on a number of international boards and panels, amongst others, the EFI Scientific Advisory Board from 1998 to 2002. He is a member of the Water and Environment Research Institute of the Polytechnic University of Valencia, of the IUFRO Forest Legislation Working Group, of the Advisory Board of CIHEAM and of the patronage of Pau Costa Foundation, as well as Chair of the Spanish Board of Foresters (MCs). In his 35+ years of experience, he has covered various positions across Europe. Eduardo spent close to 15 years at the Polytechnic University of Valencia, first as a Professor, then as Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences, and currently as Professor of the Faculty of Agronomy.

Before going back to teaching, he served as Assistant Director-General and Head of the Forestry Department at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, as Chair of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests, as UN Commissioner General for Expo Milano 2015, and as Co-chair of UNREDD. Since 2021, he is the Chair of the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC).
