Research interests in global & international health, health systems & transition in health, double burden of communicable & non-communicable diseases, malaria, TB, HIV, diabetes, and their interactions and impact, including long-term on mother & child health in particular.
Specialist in tropical medicine and in infectious diseases.
Supervised > 50 ph.d.s and > 150 masters students, many from low- and middle-income countries. Capacity building & research collaboration with Tanzania since 1992 and with India since 2002. Running courses and teaching in global & international health and tropical medicine at pre- & postgraduate level in Copenhagen and abroad.
Former board member, World Diabetes Foundation. Founder of Masters in International Health, MIH, and of Masters in Global Health, University of Copenhagen.
Published more than 250 papers in peer-reviewed journals.
