Sean Mahon

Managing Director, O’Connell Mahon Architects

Sean Mahon is Managing Director of O’Connell Mahon Architects. He graduated from University College Dublin (UCD) in 1986. He was a founding director of O’Connell Mahon Architects in 1998 and was appointed Managing Director in 2008.

Sean has over 25 years’ experience in strategic design, planning and development of healthcare facilities. His projects include winning designs and submissions for many of the recent leading national healthcare projects, including the new National Children’s Hospital; the National Maternity Hospital; the National Rehabilitation Hospital; and the North-West Cancer Centre. He continues to advise many healthcare providers and the HSE on current projects and healthcare strategies.

He has also completed a series of elderly residential projects in Ireland and is engaged in a research project with the Health Research Board and Trinity College on Dementia Friendly Irish Hospitals and Long-Term Residential Care for People with Dementia.

He has served on the various boards and committees within the architectural and healthcare sectors in Ireland. He is a Past President of the Architectural Association of Ireland (AAI) and is currently Vice-President of the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI) for 2022-2023.
