Anthony Mallows

Architect & City Planner

Anthony is an architect and urban planner with property development experience integrating planning with the design and development process. He has been a strong advocate of sustainable planning, design and development since the early 1970’s.

In 2022 he started MVW – Mallows Viljoen Worldwide – with a long-standing friend Reinhold Viljoen. Prior to starting MVW, he was based in California as President and CEO of WATG an international design company with offices worldwide and prior to WATG, he led the development team at MASDAR CITY, a Mubadala Company in Abu Dhabi for five years and prior to that he was an Executive Director with Sorouh Real Estate PJSC also in Abu Dhabi.

Prior to joining Sorouh, Anthony was a managing partner, initially at Sasaki Associates in Boston for almost 20 years and then at Hart Howerton in London for over 5 years.

During his forty-year plus career Anthony has been responsible for the planning, design and implementation of projects worldwide – Aruba, Botswana, Brazil, Croatia, Cyprus, Central Asia, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, Japan, Jordan, Korea, Pakistan, Portugal, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Tanzania, the USA and the UAE.

Anthony enjoys working in different cultural and climatic contexts and places a major emphasis on vision building, place making and realistic real estate development through a systematic planning and design process all within an elegant but realistic framework.

Anthony holds a Batchelor of Architecture from the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. His thesis title in 1974 was: “Energy and resource use as the determinants for the redevelopment of Fordsburg Market Square, Johannesburg”.

Anthony also holds dual Masters degrees in Architecture and City Planning from MIT, both with a focus on environmental design.

Anthony works virtually and in person worldwide and lives in France and South Africa.
